Slugs Can Fly
It’s time to look at humble slugs
And realize that they aren’t bugs.
Encyclopedic books will tell
They’re just a snail without its shell,
But they won’t tell you how, or why,
My humble garden slugs can fly.
*
Slugs haven’t flippers, haven’t wings,
They have no feet, no wound-up springs,
They’ve no propeller, turbo jet,
No bouncy legs to leap — and yet -
I’ve seen them as they whiz on by.
My humble garden slugs can fly!
*
I pick them up, then launch them all,
Out beyond the garden wall.
It’s true, I lend a helping hand,
But they decide where they will land!
No other slug, my sources tell,
Can really do it half so well.
I tell you once again, because:
My slugs can fly…
…And so can yours!
